How to Get Some Google Love!
My name is Michael and I run a marketing agency in Auckland helping local business
Thanks to the collaboration with Findus NZ, I am pleased to share information and knowledge gained since 1996 as an online marketer. This has helped myself and my clients sell millions of dollars of products and services online.
If you missed last week you can read a little about me here.
In our last email we discussed how we have seen a lot of things come and go, but the thing that has stayed constant over the last two decades is the power of Google to help drive phone calls and web traffic for local business.
Over the last year Google has poured a huge amount of resources into updating and enhancing Google My Business. If you have not claimed your listing, go here and do
that now. https://support.google.com/business/answer/2911778/
Then use our free Google My Business Guide to help enhance your listing and get some Google love!
Over the last few weeks we have discussed a few things that Google wants to see. Here is that summary.
1. Ensure your website is mobile optimised and loads fast
2. Setup a YouTube channel
3. Upload videos regularly
4. Claim and optimise your Google My Business (GMB) listing
5. Encourage and respond to GMB reviews
6. Post regular photos, videos and other content to your GMB
One thing my colleagues and I all agree on is that Google My Business (GMB) is the most under-rated free marketing tool online today. So if you have not already, claim your GMB listing and start adding your business details.
Most of us use Wordpress as our website platform. Unfortunately Wordpress is not ideal when it comes to fast load times, which is a major ranking factor in Google. (think user experience on mobile) You can test the load time of your website here. If slow, there are inexpensive methods to speed up your site and ensure your visitors do not leave due to slow load times.
Sites like "Wordpress for the Beginner" may also help you optimise your site.
You may also find this article helpful. It takes a look at reasons small business websites do not rank. Some of the findings may surprise you.
Next week we will look at the role YouTube plays and it's importance for search engine rankings and add three more videos to our Google My Business series.

All the best
Michael
